Meaning Behind Dreamcatchers

She was called the Spider woman and she was known to spin a web above the bed of children so that the sunlight could be caught in to so the children would be kept safe. One of the spirts, it had eight legs, could only travel so far and so the tribe had to find another way to keep children all over the world safe.

The Spider Woman allowed them to recreate her web so that they could use it to funnel the good dreams to the children while they were sleeping and to capture the bad dreams. When the sun came out, the web would dissolve the negative dreams.

Spiritual Meaning

The dream catcher helped people in the tribe to protect themselves from spiritual activity that was negative when they slept. The dream catcher would be put above the bed to protect them in their home. The dream catcher was a spiritual thing.

The netting was made of tissue or plant fiber and was attached to the circle. The circle had 13 points, and this represented the 13 moons and the eight points the legs of the Spider Woman.

The dream catchers today are beautiful, but it needs to be remembered that they do not have to be perfect. The spaces between the netting do not have to be measured out and the circle does not have to be a perfect circle.
